Cloudy water after changing carbon aquarium?
I have a 20 Aqueon filter, and replace the carbon cartridge in the night before and made a change of 20% water. This is a tank that had fish in it for over a year, has completed a cycle, etc. Today the water is cloudy. Is that because of other bacterial bloom? Or does indicate that something is wrong with activated carbon? I wet it before putting it and I double check, properly installed and may actually only go in one direction.
Since your tank has been established for a year or more, I doubt that you are having a bacterial bloom. As Probably not clarify the filter cartridge for a sufficient time before installing it. Carbon filter usually comes with a bit of fine coal dust, which must be rinsed before being used in an aquarium filter. If the fine dust gets into the aquarium water, which will look hazy gray water. The powder is not harmful, it is ugly. Must establish itself in a few days (or less), and water will be clearer. Another possibility is that the "stock" cartridge filter had a tear or open a seam somewhere, which (again) is to let the coal dust out in your tank. A third possibility is that there was a lot of fine sediment in the filter trapped by the filter cartridge, and when he took the old cartridge, released or disturbed the sediment so that ran out of the box filter in the tank. This also, settle, or be caught by the filter again in a few days or less.
