Loving the Ling: a tribute to the ugliest fish in the sea
The "eelpout" is without doubt ling or a disgusting, repulsive, annoying, slimy and smelly and unattractive fish in the sea. Despite these negative qualities, which has a delicious lobster-like taste and boasts its own annual festival near Walker, Minnesota. Why? The eelpout may be ugly, but its redemptive qualities far superior to poor appearance.
Eelpout, also known as catfish spines lawyer or burbot, tend to reside mostly in the deeper waters of clean cold Northern lakes. His appearance is part of the eel, part catfish, sporting only a mustache chin known as barbels. Its constitution is clear and direct with great force, challenging anglers with a bold game of hide and seek. Its main draw is the ease many fishermen with which they are trapped. During the winter months, eelpout relocate into the water 25 to 50 feet deep for spawning. As a result, anglers can expect to catch a large number of these family swimmers, often weighing two digits.
Early in the afternoon and evening are prime times for eelpouting success. These ugly creatures of the deep are known carnivores, and if fish and fits in the mouth, they will eat. While this bait makes them a little easier, it is this trait that also makes an unwelcome guest to other anglers, as they tend to steal bait. Like other nocturnal creatures, eelpout prefer to sneak up on their victims while rest.
The strength, depth and aggressiveness of this species stronger more game fishing equipment. Strong attraction combined with the leaders of at least three feet and keep turning the capture line and avoid the temptation of twisting with the fish. Glow hooks and rattle spoons with minnows top attraction, which is then allowed to free calls to the bottom. Those who love ling are welcome to pay your Festival tribute at the eelpout in Leech Lake in Walker, Minnesota. Three full days to mark the ugliest fish in the sea begins with an opening ceremony, lighting the torch. Participants are encouraged to use their imagination in the construction of fishing shelter, as prizes are awarded by the structure elegant built in the lake. Additional points can be earned if the shelter sports a logo of one of the sponsors of the tournament. Prizes are also awarded for individual pout more weight for more pout tonnage by a fisherman combined individual and for most combined pout tonnage by a team of fishermen.
If actually catching these despicable creatures is not on the agenda, the Festival offers numerous activities to celebrate the eelpout in style. The eelpout is a Peelout 5 km race that challenges its contestants to be the first to win the race and win the fishing contest. The Snowmobile Radar Run, eelpout Bowl Rugby Tournament, falling Polar black gala dinner on the ice and career of on-ice "Auto ensure there is something fun for participants of all ages, whether an angler or spectator.
Few creatures are as unappealing, however, offer much in the spirit of fishing. There is nothing refined or elegant about fishing for eelpout, is just plain fun. To Those who like to fish, enjoy the outdoors, and catch lots of fish regardless of species, the eelpout is a beautiful thing indeed.
