Tips for Choosing an aquarium
There is a wide range of sizes and shapes of aquariums as well as a selection of glass or acrylic aquariums and how do you choose the best aquarium for your home and the fish you intend to keep? We have prepared a guide to help you choose the perfect aquarium.
Where to place your aquarium
The first thing to decide before making a purchase is the location for your new aquarium. You must take into account the final weight of the aquarium when filled water if you intend to put on a shelf or table. A twenty gallon tank, when full, weigh about 200 pounds! Need a stand or cabinet especially designed?
Aquarium Size
For home aquariums come in a wide range of sizes small glass bowls of half a large tank gallons. You want an aquarium that is the right size for your home and your fish. The first thing to consider is the proposed location for the aquarium. Measure the area to ensure the aquarium you choose fit.
One thing to consider is that a larger aquarium requires less maintenance. Small aquariums are much more difficult maintain the correct balance of water, food are easy to overcrowding and decay of vegetation can have an immediate effect on fish health. A good size for a beginner is between twenty and thirty gallons. Decide how many fish you want to keep. Nearby you can keep one inch of fish per gallon of water but remember this is a rough estimate and much will depend on how well the fish and the aquarium is maintained. Understock always a tank rather than too much!
The best way to choose the tank size is to buy the largest tank within your budget that fits comfortably in your chosen location.
Aquarium forms
Since the introduction of acrylic aquarium, different shapes were added to the traditional rectangular shape including hexagonal cylinder and Aquariums All year. Aquariums are also designed to be mounted on the wall and coffee table aquariums. Despite all of these innovative designs rectangular aquarium is still the best as the area of water surface compared to the large volume of water which is important to allow gas exchange with air. Other forms, with a surface smaller compared to the volume of water, often need more frequent water changes and more maintenance.
Need a glass or aquarium Acrylic?
Both materials for aquariums have their advantages and disadvantages. The traditional glass aquarium is heavy and leaks can occur at the seams. Leaks are easy to fix though and usually only occur in a more aquarium. They are usually cheaper than acrylic aquariums. They only come in forms rectangular or square.
The new acrylic aquariums are lighter than glass and come in all sorts of innovative ways. Spring rarely leaks because it does not no seams. They are more expensive than glass aquaria, but usually last longer. They are easy to scratch but it never cleaned with any type of chemicals abrasives or other chemicals that can fog the glass. Acrylic aquariums used to yellow with age, but newer materials stay clear throughout his life.
