SWRO design and the energy recovery 2: Design HydroPro
Design requirements
Traditionally has always HydroPro customer needs at the forefront of your business philosophy. Thus, HydroPro always kept abreast of the latest advances in technology in the field water treatment. In this case, mostly due to the remote location (nearly everything, fuel, including diesel generators, is delivered by ship), the needs of major customers were related to energy conservation and maintaining reliability. Availability of parts was also a major concern due to the remoteness and time required to ship items to the island. Another concern HydroPro had to address was the comfort and ease of use maintenance, and remote island of Ebye OR operator had no experts on the ground. The end result would be to incorporate all these requirements to produce a reliable supply drinking water from a seawater source for the citizens of Ebye.
In the original RFP requested Kajur gpd SWRO twins 75,000 units (expandable to 100,000 gpd) designed for sea water supply of 45,000 mg / l of TDS. The proposal was submitted by HydroPro two seawater reverse osmosis water treatment units each designed to produce 75,000 gallons per day. Permeate water is expected to be less than 300 mg / l TDS feedwater base of sea water wells with a TDS up to 50,000 mg / l, and an SDI of less than 3. Each unit is designed to be easily extended to a daily capacity of 100,000 gallons by the addition of a container pressure membranes containing seven seawater. All instrumentation, piping, valves, manifolds and pumps were pre-designed to accommodate expansion.
Each proposal SWRO system consisted of four pressure vessels containing seven membrane elements each arranged in a single, one-pass matrix. With expansion, the system would be composed of five pressure vessels in a single stage matrix. Each system was designed to operate at a recovery rate 30-40%, with a maximum through the membrane (feed to product) pressure of 1100 psi at a feedwater TDS of 50,000 mg / l. With a power TDS water of 46,000 mg / l, trans-membrane pressure is expected to be approximately 900 psi and 950 psi start after three years of operation.
System Design
The final installed HydroPro 100.000 gpd design consisted of the following main components and operations of the unit for each unit of SWRO:
• Sand and diesel particulate filters: Two HydroPro Tubular filter units Model STF5M2-400-PVC/150 each consisting of a PVC cover with a wedge 150 micron PVC wire mesh for extraction of sand and dust, with automatic drain valves
• Micron Filters: Three filters housings constructed of high strength FRP / PVC and built to ASME code X, the Eden model houses are 24EFC each with a capacity of six (6) 40 "long five microns polypropylene cartridges
• High pressure RO Booster Pumps: Two high pressure pumps Grundfos booster power model BM 17-27R (installed in series) – Construction of horizontal centrifugal, multi-stage Super austenitic stainless steel 904L, each driven by a motor of 35 HP submersible type rated at 460V/60Hz/3Ø that uses a starter motor VFD soft start and low pressure RO booster pump, booster pump Grundfos A BM 30-4R model – horizontal centrifugal, multi-stage type Super austenitic stainless steel 904L, driven by a motor of 7.5 HP submersible type rated at 460V/60Hz/3Ø controlled by a frequency
• Membrane Modules: A structural framework for the construction of PRF, five pressure vessels of FRP construction of 1,200 psi working pressure, 35 elements thin film composite membrane ¬ 8 "x 40", 2205 DUPLEX SS header for power and concentration of Sch. 80 PVC headers filtering and low-pressure suction power, and concentrate piping in Allen-Bradley PLC SLC 5 / 04 based control system – installed in a NEMA 4X system with light switches, etc. installed on the door panel
• Power Systems of chemicals: A system of dosage of anti-fouling and a chlorine dosing system
• Rinse fresh water / membrane cleaning system
The skid system was designed and manufactured to a size compact due to limited installation space and to allow delivery of two units in a single container.
The whole system was pre-assembled as much as possible to minimize field service.
