Water Filter For Coffee Maker

How to make coffee? Yes, I am asking this question?
Ok, I'm not an idiot, but I really do not know how to make coffee. Recently started drinking and I'm at work. It is a coffee machine older and is a "Bunn Pour Omatic" There is a switch on the bottom left and a switch on the front that says it is for the heater. When I put the grounds into the filter and turn on the machine, then I pour the water and begins to pass into the pot immediately and the color is too light .. and tastes like tea. Do your time and wait before adding water? Or did I miss the water immediately and turn on a switch? If you can help me make this coffee silly I'll give the damn 10 pts.
There is probably a switch warmer than it has to be for a long time before start the coffee out. Ask a coworker, and large office coffee machines often do not work like home. I had to ask in my last job how it worked and I am a technical expert in electronics and computers, so do not be ashamed.
