Water Filter Hiker
Do you really need a water filter for camping?
so I'm going to Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior, for 4 days. Do I really need to buy a dollar of the $ 100 water filter kit? .. Omg I know you could get sick and have diarrhea for 2 months, prevention is better than blah blah sorry, but I'm a poor college student and $ 100 for a filtration system is not very feasible. Are iodine tablets or a similar job? Or is it absolutely necessary to buy a water filter? I walked / camped before, but others have brought a lake filter … higher also has enough clean water .. So what experience hikers think? Thanks in advance
Iodine tablets are fine to kill most pathogens, with a few notable exceptions. Tapeworms Are known to infest some water sources on the island and their eggs are not killed by iodine. Some things to note on iodine tablets usually come in a gray, yes, Color are no longer eficaces. "Let the tablet is sitting in water for 30 minutos.-Ascorbic acid neutralizes iodine contrast, something like soda mixture can be added after 30 minutes of treatment and to remove the iodine taste. Boiling water for 2-5 minutes is a very low-tech solution to a very old problem. Bring the tea to drink hot, drink mixes to add once it cools.
