How to change the water filter in a refrigerator
To get the most out of the water filter built into the refrigerator (fridge in models that include Water Filtration ice machines and / or cold water dispensers), change the water filter cartridge on a regular basis. Most manufacturers recommend change your refrigerator water filter every six months under normal conditions. Some brands may recommend more frequent replacement cartridges increased usage. This ensures that the filter is doing everything possible to remove chemicals, particles and bacteria, along with a taste out of your ice and cold water.
Change refrigerator water filter is easy. All water cooler filter cartridges are easy to follow installation instructions. You can find the number correct model / part number for the water filter cartridge for your make and model of refrigerator looking in the instruction manual that came with your refrigerator. Sure buy the brand and model of cartridge filter refrigerator.
In general, most refrigerator water filters are easy to remove. A quarter turn to the left is all that is needed to unlock most of the filters. The old filter cartridge can be removed from the water filter housing. Then the new filter cartridge can be inserted into the position of the water filter housing. A quarter turn clockwise will lock the filter cartridge in the filter housing.
Be sure to flush two or more gallons of water through the new filter as soon as you install and discard the water. Most water filters refrigerator using activated carbon (or carbon filtration etc.) and some loose carbon or activated carbon particles will be present at the first one or two gallons of water passing through the new filter. Wash these particles to the filter before use will ensure that water and ice have no undesirable residue or taste off.
Some brands of refrigerators / models may have filters that are based on grids. Some of these types of filter cartridges can be reusable buttons that must be removed from old cartridge and installed the new cartridge before the new cartridge is inserted into the filter housing. Some refrigerators can use the button filter cartridges at its base grids out with the push of a button so they can be fully understood to be eliminated. This type of cartridge filter can use a lid to be removed the used cartridge and is mounted on the new cartridge before the new filter cartridge is installed. Others may have refrigerator filter cartridges that are accessed from within compartment of your refrigerator, and some may have filter cartridges and filter housings that are covered by a plastic housing / access panel must be removed with a wrench or turning a knob to access the water filter cartridge.
Taking the time to replace the water filter cartridge in the refrigerator every six months will ensure your family is drinking clean water and clean ice throughout the year. If you bought a refrigerator with this feature, it only makes sense to replace water filter cartridges as recommended by the manufacturer to obtain the maximum benefit from filtration.
