Water Purification Pills
What better than pills water purification for hiking?
I will be hiking and camping in Yosemite National Park come July 4. I have not, nor will I buy a filter to clean the river is water. expensive My question is this: I've read so Katadyn Potable Aqua Micropur pills / Pills and want to know that pills are the best for us? Potable Aqua I know that leaves a strange taste back, but can be cured with Gatorade or Crystal Light. Aqua I'm skeptical of drinking, and protozoa Cryptosporidium is not, nor are they intended to use against the virus! This scares me, but crysptosporidia protozoa and viruses in water rivers in Yosemite? May not apply there? For Micropur Katadyn, which destroys bacteria and viruses in 15 minutes, Giardia in 30 minutes and cryptosporidia in four hours. So basically, my wife and I have to wait 4 hours for drinking water to ensure that Cryptosporidium is killed? For me, this sounds like a long awefully long wait for water? Please help us out.
For the protozoa … Katadyn is probably your best bet. Protozoa are resistant to iodine and chlorine (they do a pretty good job of killing bacteria and viruses). Boiling water is the best way to take care of protozoa, followed by filtration. But if all we have Katadyn tablets then it is. And I think the time of 4 hours of waiting is cold and dirty. Hot, clean water is 30 minutes.
